The Upper Riverfront Parks are comprised of Mariners Park, Riverfront-Lakewood East Park, and A.B. Ford Park. Located at the head of the Detroit River, together they sit on 57-acres and have 0.6-miles of a seawall.
PEA Group provided landscape architectural support for the project, developing renderings, general planting assistance, and public consultation assistance efforts in coordination with the City of Detroit Parks Department. Our team assisted with public and stakeholder discussions by creating conceptual graphics of proposed design alternatives. As the designs continued to evolve through the public engagement process, PEA Group updated the graphics and development of planting plans for the proposed landscape amenities.
Planned improvements to the parks include pollinator gardens, naturalized shorelines, fish habitat improvements, upland landscape improvements with a focus on native plantings, and kayak access.
