PEA Group was involved in the design of a trailhead and 600 linear feet of public boardwalk that connects to the 13-mile Lakelands Trail that runs east-west from Stockbridge to Pinckney. The trailhead point includes seating, signage, ADA accessible access, and bike racks.
The boardwalk crosses an expansive wetland area that connects to a paved portion of the Lakelands Trail System. Our team worked with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Friends of the Lakelands Trails, and Hamburg Township personnel to coordinate the design and implementation of this section of bike and hiking trail and amenities.
PEA Group acquired the permit for the boardwalk from the MDEQ. The boardwalk is located on private property and was funded as part of a private development (Chilson Commons) but was designed for public use as part of the Lakelands Trail system. The boardwalk and trailhead have become one of the more heavily used trailheads on the trail network.
