Get in Line Now for Spring Wetland Evaluations
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes & Energy (EGLE) offers the Wetland Identification Program (WIP) to review, document, and give jurisdictional decisions on any wetlands that may be occurring on your property. Although applications are accepted year-round, winter conditions prohibit EGLE staff from reviewing wetland areas accurately. Typically, applications are reviewed during the growing season of May through October. Actual dates will vary year to year based upon weather patterns. As this review season concludes, EGLE will accept applications for the Spring of 2021, so get in line now. PEA Group’s Eco Team is available to complete wetland delineations well into December, so long as there is no snow on the ground.
A wetland assessment from EGLE will provide you with a letter documenting the approved wetland boundaries, type of wetland, and the regulation status of that wetland (i.e. federal, state or not regulated). The wetland assessment conducted by EGLE is valid for three years from the date of the letter. If you are not quite ready to develop your property but will be in the next one to three years, consider a wetland assessment for your property now. Again, the confirmed wetland boundaries are valid for three years, and wetlands tend to grow over time, not shrink. PEA Group can help you reduce the wetland footprint on your property by taking the time to delineate the wetland boundary and submit for a wetland assessment through EGLE.
