Official Ribbon Cutting for Iron Belle Trail Addition

1 min read

On October 6th, PEA Group celebrated the opening of the newest addition of the Iron Belle Trail, the “saddle” road and walking path. An official ribbon-cutting ceremony was hosted by Van Buren Charter Township at Van Buren Park.

The Iron Belle Trail is a set of two trails – one for biking and one for hiking – that runs through 48 separate Michigan counties from the top of the Upper Peninsula to Belle Isle in Detroit. A portion of the hiking route runs through Van Buren Township; however, the trail cuts off at Lower Huron Metropark and later continues at the intersection of Grove and Rawsonville Road. The new “saddle” road and walking path addition completes a challenging section of the 7-mile gap in Van Buren Charter Township. This addition project helps to fill the gap in the Iron Belle Trail while also providing a much improved and safer access to the east side of Van Buren Township Park where there is a popular beach area and University of Michigan crew team training site.

PEA Group is proud to be providing the design engineering services for this community project. View more of our trails projects here.
