This weekend, the PEA staff came together with 10,000 other volunteers for Life Remodeled’s Six Day Project. This year, the main focus was on clearing blighted alleyways. Each group was assigned an abandoned and overgrown alley within 4 square miles of the Durfee Innovation Society. Here the team got their hands dirty and cut down overgrown brush, mowed lawns, weed-whacked, and picked up any trash and any abandoned items in the alley. At the end of the day, each group separated their waste into 3 separate piles: yard waste, garbage, and discarded tires, while was then collected by volunteers. While volunteering was rewarding, having a few local residents stop by to express their gratitude was the highlight of the team’s day.
