Spotlight on Harry Papadopulos: A Career Across Continents
PEA Group is excited to spotlight Harry Papadopulos, PhD, Senior Project Manager in our Auburn Hills Geotechnical Engineering Department. With more than 40 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing, quality assurance, and environmental engineering, his career has taken him across the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and the Far East.
Today, he brings that experience to PEA Group, supporting geotechnical projects for a variety of clients. We sat down with Harry to discuss his journey and the path that led him to PEA Group.
A Career That Spans Continents
Harry’s journey began in Limassol, Cyprus, where he spent his early years before completing the final years of high school in Greece. He later attended The Victoria University of Manchester in England, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics.
His interest in engineering brought him to Michigan, where he earned both a Master of Science in Civil Engineering and a Ph.D. in Soil Mechanics from Wayne State University. Following his doctoral studies, Harry completed a postdoctoral appointment in Civil Engineering at the University of Michigan.
After completing his education, Harry spent many years in Saudi Arabia working on major development and construction projects before returning to Cyprus. During this time, he frequently traveled between Cyprus, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, providing geotechnical engineering support, conducting site inspections, and assisting with construction activities. Harry eventually returned to the United States, but his international work did not stop there. Longtime clients continued to reach out to him for assignments in the U.S., England, Germany, and the Far East.

One of the defining aspects of Harry’s career has been the professional relationships he has developed throughout the industry. Many of those connections have remained strong over the years, reflecting Harry’s technical knowledge, reliability, and commitment to quality work.
Supporting Geotechnical Projects
A little over a year ago, Harry joined PEA Group as a Senior Project Manager within the Geotechnical Department. In his role, he manages projects for government, industrial, commercial, and residential developments.
His responsibilities include preparing proposals and reports, consulting with clients, overseeing project planning and design, and assisting with project financial management. While much of his time is spent in the office, Harry still enjoys opportunities to work in the field and stays connected to the technical side of geotechnical engineering.
His recent work has included subsurface investigations within existing buildings, foundation evaluations, soil explorations, groundwater assessments, and field testing using dynamic cone penetrometers and hand augers.
