Alternatives For Girls (Dr. Maya Angelou Village) is a $17.3-million supportive affordable housing development located in northwest Detroit and, developed by non-profit developer Full Circle Communities. This project will help address the critical housing challenges faced by vulnerable communities in the region.
In collaboration with Landon Bone Baker Architects, PEA Group is providing civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, land surveying, and landscape architecture services. The site design includes parking to support the residential units in addition to an outdoor play area for a planned early childcare education center. The site incorporates subgrade stormwater detention to reduce the stormwater impacts of the development and meets City of Detroit Stormwater Management requirements.
Opened in 2024, the 50,000-square-foot apartment building has 45 units of supportive housing thoughtfully designed to cater to the unique needs of young adults and families with incomes ranging from 30% to 50% of the area median income, who are either experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless.
