Catalpa Oaks Park

Southfield, Michigan

Located in Southfield, Michigan Catalpa Oaks Park is used for recreational sports such as soccer and softball, several community-based programs, and is a popular place for runners and walkers. Between drainage issues and overuse, the function of the park was compromised.

PEA Group completed soil borings and other site analyses to determine the best grading, soil amendments, and proper stormwater system necessary for successful active use of the site. PEA Group developed a new layout for the soccer fields to maximize the use of the space based on the anticipated age of users. Additional to the newly designed soccer fields, PEA Group also designed an aggregate walking path around the perimeter of the park, open lawn space for summer programs, and made improvements to the existing sledding hill. PEA Group designed the site elements, provided a cost opinion and construction documents, and worked with the County throughout the bidding and construction process.
