French Landing Park

Van Buren Township, Michigan

French Landing Park has undergone a remarkable transformation, from underused and considered unsafe to a unified open area offering stunning views of Belleville Lake. Working in collaboration with the township supervisor and the parks and recreation commission, PEA Group turned this six-acre space into a welcoming area offering patrons uninterrupted access from paved parking areas to the outer edges of the park and the shoreline.

Issues of overgrowth along the park’s edges were resolved, making significant improvements to visibility, safety, and overall park usage. The updated layout guides visitors from newly constructed asphalt parking areas through accessible walkways to key features, including an expansive fishing dock, a versatile pavilion, a modern restroom facility, and a universally accessible kayak launch. To enhance water access, a kayak “vending machine” was introduced at the launch area, making it easier for more people to enjoy the water.

The re-invigorated French Landing Park set out to create a more inclusive and enjoyable environment, and these positive changes came to fruition through collaborative efforts and thoughtful design.
