Located on the grounds of the historic Alger Estate on Lake St. Clair, the Grosse Pointe War Memorial serves as a monument for the 3,500 Grosse Pointers who served in WWII and the 126 who died. In 2020, the War Memorial contracted with Rossetti to design a new addition to the existing historic building. The addition expands into the existing grounds and provides a terrace over looking Lake St. Clair. PEA Group worked with Rossetti to assist with the site engineering and landscape design of the project.
PEA Group provided landscape design and civil engineering for the project. The existing parking area was reconfigured to maximize parking to meet City requirements, as well as reorganize the vehicular flow to accommodate drop off and valet parking for the new addition. Storm, water, and sanitary utility connections were reviewed and reengineered to support the building expansion. Working with Rossetti, PEA Group prepared updated landscape plans for the parking, drop off, and expansion of adjacent site areas.
For the project’s first phase, PEA Group provided a design to update the entrance and street appeal from Lake Shore Drive to complement the new building addition. The new design respected and restored portions of the historic landscape while providing timeless new contemporary design for the building addition. We provided construction drawings for the Les Brave Sculpture Plaza for phase two. The design provides a white beach setting with grasses, Michigan Basalt boulders for the statue, and a view of Lake St. Clair as the backdrop.
