PEA Group developed a park master plan including trail and safety improvements at Holliday Nature Preserve. Wayne County Parks wanted to transform this underutilized park, which is currently divided into four sections by major road crossings, into one linear park. Our team conducted an initial evaluation of existing bridges, trails, wetlands, floodplain limits, and natural conditions of the site. Based on this assessment, we created a map to display the existing site conditions and the recommended improvements.
Our team then created an updated park and trail plan, including recommendations for site access, bridge removal and replacement, improving existing trailheads and adding new ones, and defining one continuous trail from end to end. Specifically, we proposed removing several bridges that lead to lowland areas prone to flooding, establishing a continuous trail with smaller off shoots in popular sections, and redirecting trail segments that are susceptible to flooding to upland areas. Safety improvements were also recommended, including the use of wayfinding, signage and crosswalk improvements at each of the major road crossings, and invasive species removal for better visibility.
PEA Group completed the construction drawings for the project, with construction scheduled from fall 2025 through fall 2026.
