Inkster Park Master Plan and Access Improvements

Inkster, Michigan

Through our as-needed contract with Wayne County Parks, PEA Group developed an overall master plan for Inkster Park. The plan includes a network of trails connecting to the surrounding neighborhoods, prioritizing community connections to the park and Rouge River both physically and visually. The new trail system winds its way from existing neighborhoods through areas of habitat restoration and connects to new sports fields and a community garden. This new design promotes safety and accessibility, making it a valuable resource to the surrounding community.

The master planning process included community engagement to gain input on the needs of the surrounding community. The project was done in collaboration with Friends of the Rouge. Focusing on creating better access for the community to the Rouge River, the focal point of the design is a new universally accessible kayak launch. The kayak launch is supported by a realigned parking lot with kayak drop-off plaza, a kayak beach/portage area, and new picnic pavilion. PEA Group worked with Wayne County DPW and Park staff to incorporate the parking, bioswales, and detention within the Rouge River floodplain that would meet EGLE and Wayne County requirements.

PEA Group is currently working on construction drawings to be completed by the end of 2025.
