Avenue J is New Hope Housing’s 10th community and is the first affordable housing community to break ground since the COVID-19 pandemic. Avenue J offers 100 one and two-bedroom apartments to low-income individuals, including working families and those on a fixed income. Located in Houston’s culturally-vibrant East End, Avenue J is a transit-oriented development, providing easy access to job opportunities, as well as a grocery store, library, pharmacy, public parks, schools, and hiking and biking trails.
PEA Group provided civil engineering services for this new development, including site grading, paving, drainage, stormwater detention, water and sewer utility services, and floodplain involvement. A major public storm drain crossed the site which required our team to accommodate it into the overall project design. The site was judged to be at risk for overland sheet flow flooding, which was addressed through a careful grading design that will protect the project. PEA Group services included schematic design, design development, construction documents, bid award, and construction administration.
Now open, this new development will welcome working families and those on a fixed income.
