This 7-mile county drain in rural Ingham County was the subject of a Chapter 8 landowner petition for deepening, widening, straightening, and adding branches.
The drainage district experienced as much as 9 inches of rain during the design over roughly 24 hours. The resulting runoff caused considerable flooding and property damage. PEA Group prepared a hydraulic model tied to the recorded high water marks to understand how the watershed reacted. That understanding led to incorporated lessons learned and a design approach that resulted in various solutions to reduce the incidence of flooding.
The solutions included drainage channel maintenance, culvert replacements, additional drainage infrastructure, flood control berms, and regional detention.
