Rayner Creek Drain

City of Mason and Vevay Township, Michigan

PEA Group addressed frequent flooding at the Ingham County fairgrounds, contaminated sediment in a series of ponds along the drain in the City of Mason’s Rayner Park, and maintenance needs throughout the open-channel sections of the drain.

The project included open drain cleanout and sediment removal, clearing nuisance trees and brush within the drain right-of-way, reconstructing slot channels, pedestrian bridges, and enclosed storm drain around the ponds in Rayner Park, and constructing a relief channel through
the fairgrounds.

Additional improvements included concrete box culverts and a 40’ x 12’ horse bridge across the relief channel, new storm inlets and underground piping to reconnect the fairground’s storm system to the Rayner Creek Drain, and trench drains and septic tanks to support livestock barn cleaning. The project also included removal and/or abandonment of the existing enclosed drain within the fairgrounds and under livestock barns.
